The Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) at NITI Aayog and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) have established a collaborative partnership aimed at fostering innovation across the Global South. Announced by Union Minister for Education and Skill Development Dharmendra Pradhan, this initiative is set to leverage India’s robust innovation framework to benefit similarly developing nations, boosting intellectual property (IP) awareness from the school level and sparking broader economic growth.
Sherif Saadallah, Executive Director of WIPO Academy, emphasized the role of IP as a dynamic force for fostering creativity and innovation, crucial for youth development and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “Our partnership with AIM highlights WIPO’s dedication to integrating youth into the global IP ecosystem, ensuring their active involvement in creative and innovative endeavors,” he noted.
The collaboration was further endorsed by WIPO’s Director General, Daren Tang, during his visit last year to the AIM ecosystem. He praised the Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) and Atal Incubation Centers (AIC) as exemplary models for fostering innovation and entrepreneurship through South-South cooperation.
Suman Bery, Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog, expressed pride in WIPO’s recognition of India’s entrepreneurial model, noting that it marks a significant milestone in strengthening the relationship between NITI Aayog and WIPO, with a focus on enhancing national competitiveness. This partnership is poised to unlock innovative potential and drive inclusive, sustainable development globally.
