Central Railway’s Nashik Workshop Clinches Top Innovation Award

The Nashik-based traction machine workshop (TMW) under Central Railway (CR) has secured the Ministry of Railways’ top innovation prize.

The TMW team devised a groundbreaking alteration in the engine rotor, resulting in a substantial cost-saving of Rs 10,000 per rotor, amounting to an annual savings of Rs 6 crore. In recognition of their achievement, the team has been awarded a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh.

Shivaji Manaspure, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railways, described this innovation as the finest proposal, earning the workshop the top honor.

This workshop has engineered a novel rotor design, enhancing cost-efficiency while simultaneously boosting the locomotives’ durability and performance. Established in 1981, the traction machine workshop primarily focuses on the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment for traction machines.
