The European Union and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in India announced the initiation of a joint funding effort under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Staff Exchanges, revealed by the Delegation of the European Union to India and Bhutan. This collaboration is part of the broader EU research and innovation program, aiming to enhance researcher mobility and foster sustainable partnerships.
The initiative will allow CSIR to supplement selected MSCA Staff Exchanges projects, which will enable its institutions to participate in joint research endeavors with European and global partners. This arrangement is expected to facilitate the exchange of scientific and technical staff to European research organizations for collaborative research and knowledge dissemination.
This strategic alliance is set to fortify the research and innovation connections between Europe and India. It will advance scientific and technological development through strengthened bilateral institutional collaboration, joint research ventures, and the exchange of researchers under the Horizon Europe framework.
The MSCA Staff Exchanges scheme is designed to foster collaborative research, knowledge transfer, and innovation, supporting the mobility of research and innovation staff across international consortia involving EU and associated countries, as well as third countries.
The EU Ambassador to India, Herve Delphin, emphasized that this co-funding initiative is a significant step in EU-India research cooperation, aligning with the EU-India Joint Roadmap 2025 to promote scientific excellence and enhance interpersonal connections.
Director General of CSIR, N Kalaiselvi, and Secretary DSIR, Government of India, expressed enthusiasm about the prospects of this partnership, highlighting its potential to stimulate researcher exchanges and build stronger institutional relationships.
The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions under Horizon Europe support researchers at all career stages and facilitate doctoral education, postdoctoral training, and collaborative research across various domains. CSIR, a leading research entity in India, consists of 37 national laboratories and over 8,000 staff members, reinforcing its pivotal role in this groundbreaking initiative.
