IISc and Wipro GE Healthcare Join Forces to Boost Indian MedTech Innovation.

In an unprecedented move, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Wipro GE Healthcare have formed a unique alliance aimed at advancing healthcare innovation within India. This groundbreaking collaboration seeks to foster knowledge exchange between academia and industry in emerging tech fields like Precision Care, Robotics, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and 5G. The primary goal is to bolster the innovation landscape and expedite local manufacturing.

Wipro GE Healthcare, a prominent global player in medical technology, diagnostics, and digital solutions, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IISc, India’s premier research institution. Together, they aspire to drive innovation, research, and technology development in the healthcare sector. This alliance will address the entire innovation process, from co-development to technology validation and local manufacturing, with a particular focus on transferring technologies from research labs to practical healthcare applications.

With the impending launch of the Bagchi-Parthasarathy Hospital & IISc Medical School, this strategic collaboration is poised to bridge the gap between scientific discoveries and patient care.

This partnership is driven by a shared vision to combat Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), which accounted for a significant portion of global and Indian deaths in recent years. Through joint efforts, they aim to develop and manufacture indigenous MedTech solutions that meet the healthcare needs of both local and global patients. This initiative aligns perfectly with the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) agenda.

The collaboration encompasses co-development initiatives, research in various fields, academic studies, internships, and more. A joint working committee, consisting of representatives from both IISc and GE HealthCare, will lead research efforts in product and solution development.

This partnership represents a significant stride in promoting local research, development, and manufacturing in the MedTech sector, furthering India’s position as a global healthcare force.
