IISc Introduces ‘Pravriddhi’ Product Accelerator Programme

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), through its Foundation for Science, Innovation, and Development (FSID), unveiled ‘Pravriddhi,’ a product accelerator programme designed to foster innovation by connecting leading Indian institutions and enterprises.

At the launch event, IISc Director Prof. Govindan Rangarajan emphasized India’s need to address challenges like import dependency, global competitiveness, and workforce readiness to achieve its economic and industrial aspirations. “Pravriddhi aims to tackle these hurdles by leveraging IISc’s state-of-the-art facilities, R&D expertise, and a vast network of strategic partners across India,” he stated. The programme will also establish innovation hubs nationwide to expand its reach, empowering industries and driving sustained economic growth.

FSID conceived Pravriddhi as a platform to unite academia, enterprises, research labs, and investors in developing cutting-edge solutions for a self-reliant India. Vipin Sondhi, former MD & CEO of Ashok Leyland and JCB India, delivered the keynote address, stressing that collaboration between academia and industry—a cornerstone of Pravriddhi—is vital for advancing research and innovation.

Prof. B. Gurumoorthy, FSID Director, explained that the programme draws on IISc’s experience in running an accelerator focused on high-speed rotating machinery, supported by the Ministry of Heavy Industry (MHI). He added that Pravriddhi will create “hubs of excellence” across the country, facilitating research, development, and strategic collaboration in the technology sector.

This initiative underscores IISc’s commitment to bolstering India’s innovation ecosystem and fostering economic growth through cutting-edge R&D.
