IIT Kanpur’s Innovation Hub: From Chicken Feather Plastics to Temple Flower Foam

At the heart of IIT Kanpur’s campus lies a revolutionary hub – the Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC). Here, students are turning 300 innovative ideas into reality.

EndureAir, a startup from SIIC, has crafted the advanced drone system “Alakh,” a lifesaver during disasters. Beyond profitability, these startups aim to solve major issues sustainably. From creating biodegradable plastics using bamboo and chicken feathers to producing faux leather from discarded temple flowers, they’re pioneering eco-friendly solutions.

IIT-K acts as a nurturing friend to these startups, connecting bright minds with scientists, funding sources, and providing essential workspace. With significant financial support from both major corporations (Rs 15 crore this year) and its own investment capacity (Rs 50 crore), IIT-K empowers startups that might not attract mainstream investors yet.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, IIT-K developed a life-saving breathing machine in just 90 days. More than an educational institution, IIT-Kanpur is a hotbed of innovative ideas shaping the nation’s future. It’s not merely sparking a startup revolution; it’s propelling India to be the smartest and coolest destination for innovation.
