India Accelerator has introduced RUMS (Robotics, Unmanned & Space), a pioneering new division dedicated to enhancing the robotics and unmanned aerial systems sector. This initiative positions India Accelerator as the nation’s only accelerator specifically aimed at energizing the robotics and unmanned ecosystem.
RUMS will provide strategic support to various domains, including Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), Counterdrone Systems, Ground Robots, and Space Startups. Initially, through its affiliate, Finvolve, the accelerator plans to invest between 10-15 million dollars in promising early-stage startups within these fields.
The guidance for RUMS will be provided by Lt. Gen Anil Chait, a retired Indian Army veteran with four decades of experience in diverse military operations. His extensive background in armoured corps, counter-insurgency, and disaster relief will greatly benefit defense-focused startups under RUMS.
Lt. Gen. Anil Chait expressed his enthusiasm for the project, noting, “This vertical represents a venture into uncharted territories as robotics and unmanned technologies become pivotal in modern defense, warfare, healthcare, and other critical sectors. I am excited to lead this endeavor with India Accelerator as we aim to foster innovation and strengthen national security.”
Moreover, Arindam Mukhopadhyay, Partner & Head of Corporate Innovation at India Accelerator, highlighted the growing application of robotics and UAVs beyond defense, extending to agriculture, healthcare, logistics, and more. He remarked on the surge in startups within these fields and the significant opportunities they present.
As a kickstart to RUMS, India Accelerator invested nearly $1 million in a Bengaluru-based deep-tech startup through Finvolve. This startup specializes in advanced air defense aerial systems, marking a significant step towards supporting the sustainable development of Robotics and UAS startups in India.
