India Prepares for Startup Innovation Week 2024

To galvanize India’s startup ecosystem, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is all set to unveil the Startup India Innovation Week 2024. Scheduled from January 10th to 18th, the event is a jubilant celebration of India’s dynamic startup landscape, culminating in National Startup Day on January 16th, 2024.

The opening ceremony, themed ‘Startups Unlocking Infinite Potential,’ on January 11th, 2024, features an inaugural address by DPIIT Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. This event is part of the Tenth Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, offering a global platform for networking and knowledge exchange.

Highlighting the week is the announcement and recognition of the winners of the National Startup Awards 2023 and the 4th edition of the States’ Startup Ranking Framework on January 16th. These endeavors, central to the Startup India program, aim to honor exceptional startups and ecosystem contributors driving innovation, job creation, and wealth generation.

Simultaneously, incubators across the nation will organize physical events to showcase innovations by Indian entrepreneurs. These events comprise workshops, mentoring sessions, roundtable discussions, and expert panels.

To further engage the startup community, eight live Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions will run from January 10th to 17th. These sessions will feature insightful discussions with prominent figures in the startup ecosystem, including investors, mentors, unicorns, corporates, startups, academics, and government representatives.

Moreover, the week will feature five dedicated mentorship sessions focusing on ‘How to Start Up.’ These sessions are designed to equip aspiring entrepreneurs and student entrepreneurs with essential knowledge, covering topics such as business structures, entity incorporation processes, and business plan development.

The Startup India initiative, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016, aims to nurture innovation, support startups, and attract investments. In recognition of the pivotal role startups play, January 16th was declared National Startup Day in 2022. As Startup India completes eight years, it has burgeoned to recognize over 117,000 startups.

The National Startup Awards are a cornerstone, acknowledging innovative products, scalable enterprises, and their potential for job creation and wealth generation. The States’ Startup Ranking evaluates states and union territories’ efforts in cultivating startup-friendly ecosystems, fostering healthy competition.

In collaboration with the Department of Youth Affairs, DPIIT also champions the Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) initiative, launched by the Prime Minister in October 2023. During the Innovation Week, outreach activities will promote entrepreneurship among India’s youth through this tech-driven platform for youth development.
