Reaffirming its commitment to clean energy innovation, India showcased its BioE3 Policy and Integrated Biorefinery Mission at the Mission Innovation Annual Gathering 2025 in Seoul, South Korea, held from April 9 to 11. The event brought together global leaders to foster collaborative innovation and drive sustainable solutions.
Led by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under the Ministry of Science & Technology, India co-leads the Mission Integrated Biorefinery in collaboration with the Netherlands as part of the Mission Innovation (MI) 2.0 framework. Mission Innovation, a term coined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at COP21, highlights India’s leadership in advancing global clean energy goals.
During the gathering, Indian representatives engaged with international stakeholders to discuss sustainable biorefinery approaches for fuels, chemicals, and materials. India’s BioE3 Policy—focusing on Biotechnology for Environment, Energy, and Economy—was commended for its emphasis on sustainable, low-carbon production and fostering an innovation-driven manufacturing ecosystem.
Key discussions revolved around India’s advancements in Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Bioenergy (CCUB) integration and green technology initiatives. Delegates participated in sessions on Research, Development, and Demonstration (RD&D) opportunities in biomass-based biomanufacturing and visited cutting-edge clean energy facilities, including Hanyang University and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology.
The gathering reinforced the global potential of bioinnovations to address climate challenges, with India positioned as a pivotal player in driving decarbonization and clean energy solutions.
