Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the establishment of the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) in Goregaon’s Film City. Modeled after IITs, this ₹400-crore project, backed by central government funding, aims to make Mumbai a global hub for creative technology.
Fadnavis highlighted that the IICT would transcend traditional educational roles, emerging as a leader in innovation and research within the creative industry. Drawing comparisons to IIT Bombay, he envisioned the institute as a premier center for creative technology education, positioning India on the global stage.
Additionally, Mumbai will host the inaugural World Audio-Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES 2025) from May 1 to 4 at the Jio Convention Centre, BKC. Organized by the union ministry of information and broadcasting, the summit will feature initiatives like WAVES Bazaar for investments, WAVES Accelerator to foster innovation, and Creatosphere for collaboration.
WAVES 2025 is expected to attract over 100 countries, boosting investments in media and entertainment while showcasing emerging technologies. It provides a platform for professionals across broadcasting, film, animation, gaming, music, digital media, and advertising to connect globally.
Fadnavis emphasized Maharashtra’s pivotal role in India’s creative economy, with Film City and the Film & Television Institute of India in Pune already being key contributors. He likened IICT’s potential to Davos for finance, aspiring to elevate India’s creative technology sector into a globally recognized brand.
This initiative underscores Maharashtra’s commitment to fostering innovation and driving global collaboration in the creative industry.
