India’s Global Capability Centres Evolve into Innovation Powerhouses: Indian Leaders at Davos

Indian leaders at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting highlighted the evolution of Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India from cost-focused operations to global innovation hubs. During a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) breakfast session, they stressed the need for continuous upskilling of India’s talent pool.

D Sridhar Babu, Telangana’s Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications; Industries & Commerce, pointed out that the state is establishing Skill Universities to provide training and coaching for re-skilling the workforce in emerging technologies. He emphasized that while the government facilitates these initiatives, they are primarily driven by industry needs.

He underscored the importance of embracing upcoming technological revolutions, noting that India’s talent base is impressive and should be nurtured to remain on the cutting edge. He added that states across India are now becoming centers of innovation and accelerators, supported by national initiatives like Make in India and Digital India.

According to Godrej Industries Chairman and Managing Director Nadir Godrej, India’s strength in ESG and green energy, combined with its robust startup ecosystem, creates ample scope for collaboration among academia, government, and industry. PwC India Chairperson Sanjeev Krishan echoed these sentiments, noting that GCCs have expanded beyond cost arbitrage and are promoting inclusive growth across the country.

TCS President-Growth Markets Girish P Ramachandran emphasized India’s leadership in digital transformation, remarking that GCCs are no longer limited to tier-one cities. He encouraged global partnerships with India’s skill development efforts, asserting that GCCs will remain vital in propelling global progress.
