The Poshan Innovation Platform (PIP), India’s pioneering collaborative incubator for maternal and child health innovations, has been unveiled by the India Nutrition Collaborative. Launched in partnership with the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Central government at Bengaluru Design Week, PIP seeks to enhance nutritional outcomes by providing seed funding and investment avenues for scalable innovations.
Addressing the Bengaluru event, experts emphasized the necessity of innovations that extend beyond urban-centric, tech-driven solutions to ensure accessibility in remote areas. PIP’s primary focus lies in combating stunting, wasting among children, and anemia in women. The platform encourages innovations in gender equity, digital equity, market equity, and the promotion of nutrition-seeking behavior.
Dr. Sapna Poti, Director of Strategic Alliances at the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, highlighted India’s challenging nutrition scenario, ranking 101 out of 116 in the Global Hunger Index 2023. Recognizing that malnutrition affects diverse socio-economic backgrounds, PIP aims to transform innovative ideas into scalable solutions, addressing mentorship and financial support gaps.
Dr. Smriti Pahwa of the India Nutrition Collaborative stressed the importance of overcoming the challenges of ‘ineffective delivery and uptake’ to effectively combat malnutrition in the country. The Poshan Innovation Platform emerges as a promising initiative to propel impactful innovations from laboratories to practical implementation.
