NITI Aayog Workshop Highlights Collaboration to Boost India’s Innovation Ecosystem

NITI Aayog recently organized a pivotal National Workshop titled “Building Synergies in Indian Innovation Ecosystem” at GIFT City, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Hosted by GUJCOST under Gujarat’s Department of Science and Technology (DST), the event aimed to enhance collaboration among key stakeholders in India’s innovation landscape.

The workshop convened government officials, industry leaders, academic experts, startup founders, and international representatives to discuss essential topics such as R&D investments, state innovation policies, global trends, and grassroots entrepreneurship. Emphasizing the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration, Dr. V.K. Saraswat, Member (Science & Technology) of NITI Aayog, highlighted India’s need to shift from a service-based economy to a product-driven one, with strong support for DeepTech startups.

Mona Khandhar, IAS, Principal Secretary of DST Gujarat, showcased the state’s proactive efforts in fostering innovation through strategic initiatives like the Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy, Gujarat Semiconductor Policy, and Gujarat Global Capability Center Policy.

Dr. Sacha Wunsch-Vincent from WIPO outlined India’s innovation roadmap for the next decade, citing increased patent filings and growth in science and technology clusters as key achievements.

Interactive sessions led by experts included discussions on the national innovation ecosystem, state-level strategies, and grassroots innovations. The event concluded with action plans spearheaded by Dr. Saraswat and senior officials, reiterating Gujarat’s leadership in driving India’s innovation growth through research investments, progressive policies, and startup-friendly initiatives.
