Tata Motors has set a new benchmark in innovation, filing 250 patents and 148 design applications in FY25—its highest annual total to date. The filings span diverse areas, including electric vehicles (EVs), hydrogen-based technologies, and core automotive systems such as batteries, powertrains, suspensions, brakes, HVAC systems, and emission controls.
The company also submitted 81 copyright applications and secured 68 patent grants during the year, bringing its total granted patents to 918. Tata Motors emphasized that these filings align with key automotive trends like connectivity, electrification, sustainability, and safety. Notable advancements include hydrogen fuel cells and alternative propulsion technologies.
Rajendra Petkar, President and Chief Technology Officer at Tata Motors, highlighted the company’s commitment to innovation, stating that its strategy is geared toward addressing evolving industry trends and customer needs. “Our focus is on delivering sustained value while staying ahead of industry shifts. These filings reflect our dedication to pioneering technologies that support future mobility solutions and nation-building,” Petkar said.
In recognition of its efforts, Tata Motors received five intellectual property awards from domestic and international organizations during FY25. On the same day as the announcement, the company’s shares rose by 0.8%, closing at ₹621.50.
