UCL Partners with AIIMS and IIT-Delhi to Boost Medtech Innovation

University College London (UCL) has entered a trilateral agreement with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi to advance research and innovation in medical technology.

This collaboration aims to harness the strengths and industry networks of all three institutions, fostering multidisciplinary solutions in healthcare technology. Key areas of focus include diagnostics and imaging, medical devices and implants, digital health, artificial intelligence, and advanced surgical technologies.

The agreement emphasizes initiatives such as staff and student exchanges, joint research programs, collaborative degrees, workshops, conferences, and co-authored publications. A joint statement highlighted these efforts as crucial to driving innovation.

Dr. Michael Spence, UCL’s president and provost, expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential to address pressing global healthcare challenges by combining expertise across disciplines. He noted UCL’s commitment to international collaboration and its transformative impact on solving critical issues.

This trilateral pact follows UCL’s recent Letter of Intent with IISc Bengaluru, aimed at enhancing collaboration in postgraduate medical education, research, and innovation. Dr. Spence clarified that while the IISc initiative focuses on future clinical education and AI-enabled hospitals, the AIIMS-IIT Delhi partnership centers on advancing specific medical technologies.

Spence also emphasized the strategic importance of Indian research, stating that UCL prioritizes India as a key partner among global institutions. This marks the first comprehensive, cross-disciplinary collaboration between UCL, AIIMS, and IIT Delhi, building on their long-standing bilateral relationships.
