In a pioneering move, Malkangiri district headquarters hospital has introduced an AI-powered microscope for rapid malaria diagnosis. The first of its kind in the state, this cutting-edge technology is set to transform healthcare in the region.
Chief Medical Officer Nanda stated, “We are currently in the process of feeding the AI microscope with around 200 blood test slides related to malaria. Once this is complete, it will provide results within seconds, offering precise clinical accuracy and distinguishing the plasmodium genus responsible for malaria.”
Developed by Bombay IIT and supported by a local startup, this innovation promises to revolutionize healthcare accessibility in Malkangiri, an area known for its high malaria cases. Thanks to targeted interventions and public awareness campaigns, the district has witnessed a significant drop in cases, from 40,439 in 2016 to just 4,816 in 2022.
This AI microscope heralds a new era in malaria diagnosis, setting a precedent for the rest of India.
