Celebrating the IndiaAI Mission’s first anniversary, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw introduced groundbreaking initiatives, including the IndiaAI compute portal and the AIKosha dataset platform. These efforts aim to advance AI accessibility and foster innovation across diverse sectors.
The compute portal offers access to over 18,000 GPUs, cloud storage, and other AI services, benefitting students, startups, researchers, academia, and government departments. It also provides high-quality non-personal datasets to promote AI-driven solutions.
AIKosha serves as a comprehensive dataset platform, equipping developers and model builders with resources and guidance to create India-centric AI models. This platform aims to transform ideas into industry-ready solutions.
Vaishnaw emphasized the compute portal’s pivotal role in developing India’s cost-efficient foundational AI model, drawing comparisons to the nation’s affordable moon mission. He revealed that 67 applications have already been received, and India’s GPUs are projected to compete globally within 3-4 years, offering access at less than ₹100 per hour.
MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan highlighted the compute portal as the IndiaAI Mission’s largest component, receiving 45% of its funding. He underscored AI’s transformative potential in achieving India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Additionally, MeitY introduced a competency framework for AI in public sectors, launched the India AI Startups Global Acceleration Programme, and honored students under the India AI Fellowship. These initiatives, supported by a ₹10,371.92 crore budget, reflect IndiaAI’s commitment to building a robust ecosystem for AI innovation through public-private collaboration.
