BSNL Installs 50,000 Local 4G Sites Across India’s Remote Areas

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), under the stewardship of the Ministry of Communications, has achieved a significant milestone in promoting India’s digital goals by installing over 50,000 homegrown 4G sites across the nation. This initiative is a pivotal part of the Atma Nirbhar Bharat campaign, aimed at enhancing India’s digital infrastructure through indigenous resources.

The deployment was carried out in collaboration with major Indian technology firms including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tejas Networks, the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), and ITI Ltd. This marks a notable achievement in India’s journey towards self-reliance in telecommunications technology, embodying the principle of “Poorn Swadeshi” or Completely Indigenous. The rollout not only enhances BSNL’s network capabilities but also showcases the potential of Indian technology on a large scale.

As reported on October 29, 2024, BSNL has not only installed these sites but has also made over 41,000 of them operational. This includes nearly 36,747 sites under the Phase IX.2 project and an additional 5,000 under the 4G Saturation Project, funded by the Digital Bharat Nidhi Fund, previously known as the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF). BSNL’s rapid deployment, with 15,000 sites activated by July 2024 and 25,000 more in the following three months, underscores its commitment to bridging digital divides and ensuring comprehensive connectivity across India.
