Google has rolled out significant updates to its Gemini app, enhancing its functionality and making several features free for all users. These updates include an upgraded Deep Research tool, expanded personalization, and the addition of customizable Gems.
The highlight of the update is the integration of Deep Research with Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental. This advancement enhances every stage of research, from planning and analysis to reporting. According to Google, the tool now provides real-time insights into its web-browsing process, offering users a transparent view of how research tasks are tackled. Available in over 45 languages, Deep Research can now be used globally a few times each month at no cost.
The Gemini app also introduces personalized responses powered by the 2.0 Flash Thinking model. By linking with Google services like Search, it tailors suggestions based on user history, such as restaurant recommendations or travel advice. Importantly, users retain control over their data and can disconnect Search history from Gemini anytime.
Additionally, connected apps now integrate more seamlessly, with support for Calendar, Notes, Tasks, and Photos. These enhancements allow Gemini to manage complex tasks, such as creating a shopping list from a YouTube recipe and finding nearby grocery stores. Upcoming features include using Google Photos for travel itineraries or document reminders.
Customizable Gems, a feature enabling users to design task-specific tools like translators or meal planners, are now available for free. Users can upload files to provide context and name their creations for personalized experiences.
