On Saturday, the Gujarat government, in a significant move to bolster Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities within the state, signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with tech leaders IBM and Microsoft, alongside the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM). These partnerships were solidified in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
IBM has committed to establishing an “AI Cluster” in collaboration with Gujarat’s Department of Science and Technology at the Gujarat International Finance Tec (GIFT) City. This initiative aims to enhance innovation and collaboration among financial institutions. Concurrently, Microsoft will set up an AI Center of Excellence in GIFT City, focusing on advancing technologies like machine learning, cognitive services, and bot services.
These endeavors align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of propelling India towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy using futuristic technologies. Chief Minister Patel emphasized Gujarat’s strategy to maintain its status as a top industrial state by leveraging AI.
In response to the demand for a skilled workforce in technology-driven sectors, the Gujarat government has also launched the Up Skilling Industry Ready Talent Program under its IT and ITES policy. This program seeks participation from universities and course providers to train youths in deep technology. Partners like IBM, NVidia, AWS, TCS, and L&T Edutech will offer courses, aiming to educate 25,000 students in deep tech within three years. Additionally, state universities including GTU, IITRAM, P.D.E.U, and Ganpat University have joined as aggregators, marking a robust effort to future-proof Gujarat’s workforce.
