IcfaiTech, Hyderabad, has inaugurated its Centre for VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration), positioning itself as a global hub for semiconductor innovation and collaboration. Ajai Chowdhry, HCL co-founder and Chairman of the EPIC Foundation, presided over the launch, emphasizing the transformative potential of VLSI technology in shaping India’s digital future.
Chowdhry highlighted the pivotal role of VLSI in advancing fields like artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and high-performance computing, which are critical to establishing India as a global technology leader. He lauded initiatives like “Make in India” for encouraging indigenous product development and stressed the importance of transitioning from a service-based economy to a product-driven one. He also underscored the need for investments in science, technology, and a thriving start-up ecosystem focused on hardware innovation, particularly in areas such as quantum computing and AI chips.
The VLSI Center supports strategic initiatives by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), such as the ChipIN Centre and C2S, aimed at strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem. The facility is equipped with cutting-edge resources, including the Synopsys EDA tool, FPGA-based Xilinx boards, and Texas Analog Design Boards, providing students and researchers with hands-on industry-standard training.
Professor KL Narayana, Director of IcfaiTech, stressed the Center’s multidisciplinary approach to research and its alignment with the “Make in India” vision. The inauguration, attended by students, faculty, and industry experts, signifies a milestone in advancing India’s technological capabilities and fostering a globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem.
