Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has expressed confidence in India’s ability to lead the development of next-generation 6G technology, targeting a 10% share of global patents. Speaking at the ET Now Global Business Summit, Scindia highlighted the efforts of the Bharat 6G Alliance, which unites private sector professionals, researchers, and IITs to create a blueprint for universal connectivity.
India’s contribution to 6G development has already gained recognition, with a key paper submitted to the International Telecom Union being accepted as a foundational principle of 6G. According to Scindia, the nation is among the top six globally for 6G patents, showcasing its growing prominence in technology innovation.
To support 6G research and innovation, the government has sanctioned 111 projects worth ₹300 crore and established a dedicated 6G testbed. India’s Bharat 6G Alliance is also collaborating with global leaders such as the US, Germany, South Korea, and Brazil to drive progress in the sector.
Reflecting on the nation’s journey, Scindia noted, “We followed the world in 4G, matched it in 5G, and now, we are set to lead in 6G.” He also highlighted the rapid deployment of 5G in just 22 months, covering 99% of districts.
Scindia’s remarks underscore India’s ambition to establish itself as a global hub for advanced technology, solidifying its position as a leader in connectivity and innovation.
