India Can Lead AI Like China Leads Manufacturing: Bhavish Aggarwal

Ola Founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal asserted on Sunday that India, with its vast talent pool, has the potential to become a global powerhouse in artificial intelligence (AI) similar to how China has dominated manufacturing. However, he noted that this transformation won’t happen automatically and requires proactive effort.

In a post on the social media platform X, Aggarwal highlighted India’s strengths: the largest number of developers, the most extensive pool of silicon designers, the greatest amount of data, and the largest IT services industry in the world.

Aggarwal mentioned the recently approved India AI Mission, which has a budget of Rs 10,372 crore. Of this, Rs 2,000 crore is allocated to support the Indian startup ecosystem in developing indigenous AI-based solutions. He emphasized that this mission is a critical step towards harnessing India’s capabilities in AI.

According to the latest report from IDC, India’s spending on AI and Generative AI (GenAI) is expected to reach $6 billion by 2027, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 33.7 percent. This significant investment reflects the country’s commitment to advancing its AI landscape and establishing itself as a leader in this transformative technology.
