National Technology Day, announced by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on May 11 to commemorate the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests, serves as a platform to assess India’s tech progress and future prospects in an AI-driven era.
The last ten years have witnessed significant achievements, including a push for local manufacturing, the establishment of new semiconductor plants, advances in AI and 5G, and the inception of various production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes. These initiatives have not only enhanced local product development capabilities, particularly in electronics through startups and established companies but also created lakhs of new jobs, notably nearly 12 lakh in electronics manufacturing alone.

Anil Sethi of Dell Technologies India points to the potential of disruptive technologies like generative AI to drive digital transformation and enhance decision-making across businesses.
As the landscape evolves, embracing innovation and upskilling the workforce will be crucial for industries to remain competitive and unlock new growth avenues, according to Ashish Modi of Honeywell India and Anku Jain of MediaTek India. With a robust startup ecosystem and a strong focus on cutting-edge technologies, India is poised for an exciting next phase of growth in technology.
