Bill Gates, former CEO of Microsoft and Chairman of the Gates Foundation, lauded India’s growing influence in artificial intelligence (AI), stating that the country’s leadership will propel global innovation. Speaking at the “Future Forward” event, Gates drew parallels between India’s globally acclaimed Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and its potential in AI to drive impactful change worldwide.
During the New Delhi event, Gates revealed recent discussions with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw about India’s involvement in the upcoming AI Summit. He emphasized the summit’s importance in ensuring that countries, especially from the Global South, benefit from India’s AI advancements.
Highlighting AI’s transformative potential, Gates pointed out its role in accelerating breakthroughs in mRNA vaccines, tackling malnutrition, and enhancing agricultural innovation. By leveraging data for targeted solutions, AI can break down barriers hindering progress.
Gates also praised Indian companies like Serum Institute, Bharat Biotech, and IRI for their contributions to affordable, high-quality vaccines. “Without Indian innovation, vaccines wouldn’t be as accessible or affordable,” he remarked, underscoring India’s pivotal role in global healthcare.
With ongoing investments in digital infrastructure, health, and education, Gates said India is well-positioned to continue inspiring progress globally. He commended India’s partnerships and advancements, noting that the nation’s expertise and innovations are essential for fostering accessibility, affordability, and real-world impact on a global scale.
