Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that India’s first ‘Made in India’ semiconductor chip is set for production by 2025. The announcement came during the ‘Global Investors Summit 2025’ in Bhopal, where the Electronics and Information Technology Minister participated via video conference.
Vaishnaw highlighted Madhya Pradesh’s significant strides in electronics manufacturing under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Two electronics manufacturing clusters, one each in Bhopal and Jabalpur, have been approved, with 85 companies actively operating in the sector across the state. To further bolster talent, the government has launched the Future Skills Programme to train 20,000 engineers in advanced semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.
India’s electronics manufacturing industry has seen exponential growth, now valued at ₹10 trillion, with exports worth ₹2.5 trillion across mobiles, laptops, telecom equipment, and defense and medical electronics. Electronics has risen to become one of India’s top three export categories.
Five semiconductor units are currently under construction, reflecting the government’s commitment to technological self-reliance. Vaishnaw credited PM Modi’s vision and leadership for propelling the industry to new heights.
On the summit’s opening day, Vaishnaw also announced significant investments in renewable energy projects in collaboration with Indian Railways and the Madhya Pradesh government. These initiatives align with the Modi government’s focus on future-ready infrastructure, capacity building, and achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047 through infrastructure investments, inclusive growth, and manufacturing expansion.
He congratulated the people of Madhya Pradesh for their achievements and hailed the new HLBS plant as another milestone for the state.
