Infosys Chairman Nandan Nilekani emphasized the vast potential of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in enhancing human productivity and simplifying life, according to the company’s annual report for the fiscal year ending March 2024. Nilekani addressed the previously held concerns about AI risks, noting that understanding of the technology has significantly improved over the past 18 months, reducing fears of AI leading to human extinction.
In his letter within the annual report, Nilekani compared GenAI to pivotal technological advancements such as electricity and the internet, stating that when managed responsibly, GenAI holds substantial promise for societal benefits. He distinguished between consumer AI, which aims to improve daily convenience and usability much like smartphones did, and enterprise AI, which presents unique challenges in data management and integration to ensure accurate AI responses and insights.
Echoing similar sentiments, Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran also remarked at TCS’s annual general meeting that GenAI is poised to influence every industry significantly.
Infosys CEO Salil Parekh elaborated on the company’s active engagement with GenAI across various domains, including software engineering, process optimization, customer support, advisory services, and sales and marketing, underscoring Infosys’s commitment to leveraging GenAI for comprehensive business enhancements.
