Karnataka to Establish Three Global Innovation Districts

Karnataka will set up three global innovation districts in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Belagavi under its Global Capability Centres (GCC) policy, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced at the 27th Bengaluru Tech Summit. These districts aim to provide dedicated spaces for GCCs, capitalizing on the state’s engineering talent and strong presence of AI professionals.

The state’s new NIPUNA Karnataka initiative will further bolster industry-ready talent. Partnerships with leading tech giants—Microsoft, Intel, Accenture, IBM, and the BFSI Consortium—will train over 1 lakh individuals in emerging technologies. Microsoft will train 10,000 people annually in deep tech, while Intel focuses on skilling 20,000 in AI. Accenture will train 10,000 in areas like cybersecurity and quantum computing. IBM plans to skill 50,000 individuals in AI and cloud services, and the BFSI Consortium will train 10,000 in fintech, ensuring placements in top companies.

The recently launched Karnataka Global Capability Centres Policy 2024-2029 sets ambitious goals to establish 500 GCCs, create 3.5 lakh jobs, and generate $50 billion in economic output by 2029. This policy highlights a “Beyond Bengaluru” strategy, encouraging companies to expand into tier-2 and tier-3 cities like Mysuru, Mangaluru, Shivamogga, and Hubballi-Dharwad through targeted incentives.

Focusing on talent development, ecosystem growth, and sustainability, the policy aims to decentralize innovation and unlock the potential of untapped talent pools across Karnataka, solidifying its status as a global innovation hub.
