Microsoft has announced a $3 billion investment over the next two years to enhance India’s cloud and AI infrastructure. Unveiled during the Microsoft AI Tour in Bengaluru by CEO Satya Nadella, this initiative aims to accelerate AI adoption, innovation, and skill-building across the nation.
As part of this vision, Microsoft plans to train 10 million individuals in AI skills by 2030 under its ADVANTA(I)GE India program. Having already exceeded its earlier target by training 2.4 million people, including a significant percentage from tier II and III cities, the company now aims to equip even more Indians to thrive in the evolving job market.
The investment also includes expanding Microsoft’s data center infrastructure in India, with a fourth center set to launch by 2026, to support the country’s booming AI startups and research community. Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India, highlighted the transformative potential of AI, emphasizing its applications from classrooms to communities and commerce.
Microsoft Research Lab further bolstered this effort by launching an AI Innovation Network to bridge the gap between research and practical business solutions. This network will foster collaborations with startups and digital natives, propelling India’s AI ecosystem toward global prominence.
Aligned with Microsoft’s principles of responsible AI, the initiative underscores a commitment to fairness, inclusivity, and transparency. Collaborating with government and private sectors, Microsoft seeks to empower India’s talent, particularly its youth and women, to lead the AI era and achieve sustainable economic growth.
