The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has recently approved the establishment of 20 new Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) centers, further expanding its network to 65 across the nation. These centers, set up based on the proposals from state governments, aim to bolster the IT infrastructure and foster growth in the technology sector.
Additionally, the ministry had earlier launched the Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC) Scheme in October 2012, designed to enhance infrastructure and attract investment in the electronics sector. Although the scheme concluded in October 2017, it successfully approved 19 Greenfield EMCs and 3 Common Facility Centers in 15 states.
To continue the development of a strong electronics manufacturing ecosystem, MeitY introduced the Modified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0) Scheme on April 1, 2020. Since its inception, the scheme has seen the approval of five EMC projects and one Common Facility Centre in six states.
