Nasscom, in partnership with Meta, has initiated the ‘Open-Source Generative AI Grand Challenge’. This initiative aims to cultivate a vibrant ecosystem of startups and developers focused on leveraging open-source and Generative AI (GenAI) technologies for societal and economic enhancement. As part of this collaboration, the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), under the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), will contribute by providing necessary computing infrastructure.
This challenge is designed to enable participants to develop GenAI solutions across various sectors, thereby demonstrating the substantial socio-economic benefits these technologies can offer. Nasscom’s statement highlighted the goal of connecting standout solutions with industry leaders to facilitate wider implementation.
The competition is open to GenAI startups and developers who are encouraged to craft innovative solutions targeting key areas such as education, enterprise, and e-governance. Shivnath Thukral, Meta’s Vice President and Head of Public Policy in India, emphasized the importance of open-source AI models in democratizing access to advanced AI technologies. This, he noted, allows Indian developers to innovate across multiple domains, fostering a safe and innovative environment for economic expansion.
Prize incentives include up to Rs 4 lakh for category winners and up to Rs 1 lakh for runners-up. Participants will also benefit from mentorship by seasoned industry experts, aiming to refine their projects throughout the challenge.
Ankit Bose, Head of Nasscom AI, expressed anticipation for the innovative contributions that will address real-world challenges and enhance the broader AI landscape.
