Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on Monday to discuss the company’s growth plans in India, its focus on artificial intelligence (AI), and upcoming investments.
Following their meeting, Nadella expressed gratitude on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Thank you, PM @narendramodi ji for your leadership. Excited to build on our commitment to making India AI-first and expanding to ensure every Indian benefits from this AI platform shift.”
Responding to Nadella, PM Modi wrote, “It was indeed a delight to meet you, @satyanadella! Glad to learn about Microsoft’s ambitious expansion and investment plans in India. Discussing innovation, tech, and AI was truly insightful.”
This meeting coincided with the visit of US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to India. PM Modi also met Sullivan, highlighting the deepening India-US strategic partnership. “The India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership has scaled new heights, including in technology, defence, space, biotechnology, and AI,” Modi noted on X.
The discussions emphasized enhancing ties between the two democracies for mutual and global benefit. Sullivan also held talks with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, focusing on implementing the US-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET).
Launched in May 2022 by PM Modi and President Joe Biden, iCET aims to strengthen collaboration in critical technologies. Recent initiatives have included advancements in semiconductors, critical minerals, telecommunications, and defence. Sullivan’s visit follows Jaishankar’s recent six-day US trip, further solidifying bilateral cooperation.
