Samsung plans to boost investment in its Bengaluru and Noida R&D facilities, which played a pivotal role in developing AI features for the recently launched Galaxy S25, according to T M Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience (MX) Business. Addressing media at the smartphone’s release, Roh emphasized India’s significance for both the creation and sale of Galaxy AI technology, particularly given the country’s large youth demographic.
India’s enthusiasm for emerging technologies makes it a top priority for Samsung’s AI initiatives, said Roh. He highlighted how local research centers were instrumental in integrating Hindi into the Galaxy S25’s voice assistant, Gemini Live, alongside Korean and English. This inclusion underscores India’s higher-than-average adoption rate of AI tools, prompting the company to prioritize Indian language support in its latest smartphone features.
Roh also revealed that Samsung is collaborating with telecom operators in select markets to develop 3GPP-based satellite connectivity for certain S25 models, though specific details remain undisclosed. He noted that Samsung’s India-based research centers, the largest outside South Korea, will continue to develop, refine, and differentiate AI elements across various Galaxy products.
Samsung’s “open collaboration philosophy” involves merging its proprietary AI applications with Google’s Gemini, reflecting a hybrid approach to innovation. Roh commented that the industry is at a pivotal stage, transitioning from smartphones to AI-driven devices, and confirmed plans to expand Gemini Live into additional languages—further solidifying India’s role in Samsung’s global AI strategy. With these developments, Samsung demonstrates a continued commitment to innovation and localized consumer experiences in India.
