5G technology, known for its high-speed capabilities, significantly outpaces 4G when it comes to loading internet pages and applications in India, according to recent data from Ookla. The network intelligence company conducted tests comparing 5G and 4G speeds on popular platforms such as Facebook, Google, and YouTube—sites that millions of Indians use daily.
The findings revealed that 5G loads pages much faster than 4G; for instance, Facebook pages load in 1.8 seconds with 5G, compared to 2.7 seconds with 4G, marking a 33% speed increase. Google pages loaded in 1.3 seconds on 5G and 1.7 seconds on 4G, showing a 23% improvement. YouTube showed a similar trend with 5G loading times at 2.1 seconds versus 3.1 seconds on 4G, a 32% faster rate.
Despite these improvements, Ookla’s report highlighted that India and Mexico recorded the slowest 5G page load speeds for Facebook among the countries analyzed. Additionally, an Opensignal report noted that median 5G download speeds in India are decreasing as more users access the network and coverage expands.
While the transition to 5G brings noticeable speed enhancements, the actual performance gains do not require the maximum throughput 5G promises for applications like YouTube, Facebook, and Google. This underscores a broader point that even with advanced 4G technologies like those seen in the UAE, user experience on these common platforms could still be optimized, suggesting room for improvement in network performance and user satisfaction.
