The Commerce Ministry announced on Tuesday its plans to introduce a digital platform, named Trade Connect, designed to link exporters, MSMEs, and entrepreneurs with a network of stakeholders. These include Indian missions overseas, export promotion councils, and various government agencies. Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada, shared in a Lok Sabha response that this platform will offer vital information on global trade events, advantages stemming from India’s free trade agreements, and other pivotal international trade data.
Prasada elaborated that this initiative aims to forge stronger connections between Indian exporters, small and medium enterprises, and pertinent government bodies through the new e-platform. He also responded to queries about districts showing robust export growth. Notably, Jamnagar led with exports worth USD 10 billion in the initial two months of this fiscal year. This was followed by Kanchipuram, Mumbai, Pune, Kachchh, and Surat, highlighting their significant contributions to India’s export landscape.
In addition, Prasada addressed inquiries about governmental support for Women Entrepreneurs and MSMEs concerning licensing fees. He confirmed that an 80% discount for Women Entrepreneurs and a 50% reduction for MSMEs in licensing fees issued by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) are currently under review by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
