The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is gearing up to launch a pioneering Research Centre in Dubai by early 2025, focusing on innovation and entrepreneurship. This initiative marks the first international venture under the newly formed IITM Global and is aimed at specializing in advanced sectors like artificial intelligence (AI), data science, robotics, and sustainable energy.
The establishment of this Centre stems from a collaboration agreement between IIT Madras and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), which was signed at the GITEX Global event. This strategic move is designed to foster research, innovation, intellectual property licensing, and technology transfer in vital areas that align with Dubai’s economic ambitions.
Prof. Raghunathan Rengaswamy, Dean of Global Engagement at IIT Madras, and Hadi Badri, CEO of Dubai Economic Development Corporation (DEDC), spearheaded the signing. The Centre aims to act as a crucial link to India’s thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem, echoing Dubai’s vision to double its economy by 2033 under the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33.
The northern region of India, known as the country’s breadbasket, highlights the geographical significance and potential impact of this initiative. Syngenta’s commitment extends to launching innovative crop protection technologies, biological products, and new vegetable seed varieties, emphasizing a holistic approach to agricultural advancement.
In addition to technological innovations, Syngenta is engaged in significant partnerships, like collaborating with drone companies in India, to introduce precision farming technologies that are sustainable and scalable.
By addressing the complex landscape of new technologies, Syngenta acknowledges the necessity for education and faster dissemination of innovations to farmers, reflecting an overarching strategy that champions both economic and social advancements in agriculture.
