The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) and Renesas Electronics Corporation have initiated a strategic partnership aimed at fostering innovation within India’s burgeoning semiconductor industry. This collaboration has been established through the IITH Japan Desk, which is supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The focus of this partnership is on advancing research and cooperative efforts in very-large-scale-integration (VLSI) and embedded semiconductor systems. As part of this alliance, Renesas will contribute to curriculum development and provide hands-on learning opportunities and outreach programs at IITH. Additionally, IITH engineering students will benefit from internship and future employment opportunities at Renesas, enhancing their practical experience and career prospects.
Saito Mitsunori, chief representative of JICA India, emphasized the importance of Indo-Japan collaboration in high-end technology sectors like semiconductors, marking a significant expansion of JICA’s cooperation with India. JICA has already played a pivotal role in IITH’s development by providing financial assistance for campus infrastructure through Official Development Assistance (ODA) loans amounting to approximately JPY 23,035 million (around Rs 1,500 crore). The Japan Desk at IITH serves as a vital link to facilitate academic and industrial partnerships between India and Japan, further strengthening bilateral ties in education and technology.
