Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has proclaimed that India, referred to as “Bharat” in his address, will be at the forefront of developing sixth-generation (6G) technology globally. Speaking at an industry conference on July 18, Scindia highlighted India’s significant strides in telecommunications under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He proudly noted, “From following the world in 4G to marching alongside in 5G, Bharat is poised to lead in 6G under the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Modi.”
Scindia underscored the transformative impact of technology in bridging social and economic divides across India, aligning with Modi’s vision of a digitally inclusive nation. He elaborated on India’s evolution from a mere consumer to an influential supplier of tech solutions, enhancing connectivity from the remotest villages to urban centers.
The minister also reviewed several key telecom initiatives bolstering this growth, including the recent Telecommunications Act of 2023, the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme to boost domestic manufacturing, and the swift deployment of 5G networks. He affirmed the implementation of the Telecommunications Act’s regulations within the next six months.
Further supporting the tech sector’s expansion, Scindia introduced a reimbursement scheme aimed at reducing financial strains for startups and MSMEs in telecom. This initiative promises up to Rs 50 lakh per entity for testing and certification costs, ensuring product quality and facilitating market entry. Additionally, he announced a new testing scheme and the signing of an MoU between NTIPRIT and IIT Jammu to foster advancements in cybersecurity.
