General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Indian Army, virtually inaugurated the Indian Army Artificial Intelligence Incubation Centre (IAAIIC) in Bengaluru, marking a significant step toward technological advancement and innovation within the defence sector.
In collaboration with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), the IAAIIC is designed to empower the Army with AI-driven solutions, enhancing operational capabilities and readiness for modern security challenges. BEL will provide the infrastructure and IT support, while Indian Army personnel will operate the centre.
The IAAIIC aims to become a hub for collaboration, bringing together academia, startups, industry leaders, and domain experts to develop indigenous AI solutions tailored to the Army’s needs. It focuses on key areas like Predictive Maintenance, Enhanced Surveillance, Decision Support Systems, and Autonomous Platforms, supported by a 1-petaflop supercomputer from CDAC for advanced AI modelling and training.
By fostering research and development, the centre seeks to nurture local talent, reduce reliance on foreign technology, and build a cadre of AI experts, reinforcing India’s self-reliance in defence technology.
Positioning the Indian Army at the forefront of multi-domain warfare, the IAAIIC embodies the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. It underscores the Army’s dedication to leveraging niche technologies during this “Decade of Transformation.”
This initiative not only boosts national security but also sets benchmarks in military AI applications, showcasing the Indian Army’s commitment to innovation and excellence in defence technology.
