Mindgrove Technologies, a fabless semiconductor startup backed by Peak XV Partners, has launched Secure IoT, a groundbreaking high-performance system on chip (SoC). Claimed to be India’s first commercial high-performance MCU chip, Secure IoT is designed for IoT devices and offers up to 30% cost savings compared to similar chips in the market.
Supported by the IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation and incubated at the IIT-Madras Incubation Cell, Mindgrove’s chip has successfully undergone prototyping at the 28nm node. In the coming weeks, reference boards will be available for OEMs to experiment with.
The Chennai-based startup emphasizes that Secure IoT will enable Indian companies to use locally designed SoCs in their products, significantly reducing device costs without compromising on advanced features.
Clocked at 700 MHz, Secure IoT is the only Indian microcontroller commercially available in its category. It offers programmability, flexibility, and robust computing power for a broad range of connected smart devices.
According to the company, this chip can be used to control wearables like smartwatches, smart city devices such as connected meters, and smart home devices including locks and speakers. The chip is also suitable for EV battery management systems and control systems.
Mindgrove plans to provide design support to Indian brands, enabling accelerated innovation and production scalability in India. CEO Shashwath TR projects significant adoption, expecting the chip to replace millions of the billion chips used annually in India, while also attracting international buyers.
Mindgrove was founded by Shashwath TR and Sharan Srinivas J, and is backed by Peak XV Partners, Speciale Invest, and Whiteboard Capital.
