Healthcare technology leader Royal Philips announced the initiation of a new research and development center in Pune during a groundbreaking event held on Monday. This move marks an expansion of the company’s healthcare innovation efforts within India.
The new facility, located on a 10-acre plot in MIDC, Chinchwad, will feature an initial office space of 300,000 sq ft and is set to house about 1900 employees in its first phase.
Scheduled to be operational within two years, the center will bring together R&D teams focused on Image Guided Therapy, Precision Diagnosis, and Monitoring, as well as Sleep & Respiratory Care. Philips aims to enhance efficiency, speed, and scalability by consolidating these teams under one roof, fostering better resource utilization and sharing of best practices across its divisions.
The center is part of Philips’ broader goal to impact 2.5 billion lives annually by 2030 through groundbreaking health technologies. It also embodies the company’s dedication to environmental sustainability, featuring green energy solutions, electric vehicle charging stations, and facilities promoting cycling to work.
The Pune site joins Philips’ other Indian locations, including the Healthcare Innovation Centre in Pune, the Innovation Campus in Bengaluru, Global Business Services in Chennai, and a commercial team in Gurgaon. These teams are integral to Philips’ local operations, supporting the Indian government’s health sector ambitions, particularly in medical device innovation.
Peeyush Kaushik, Vice President and Head of the Healthcare Innovation Centre Pune, emphasized the center’s role in enhancing collaboration with healthcare providers to develop innovative solutions aimed at improving health outcomes. Established in 2011, the Philips Healthcare Innovation Centre (HIC) in Pune focuses on comprehensive healthcare R&D and smart manufacturing from initial product development through commercialization.
