RailTel Forges Alliance with South African Firms to Boost Indian Tech Exports

RailTel Corporation of India Ltd, recognized as a Mini Ratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways, has recently signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the presence of Indian technology and products in South Africa and neighboring regions. This collaboration involves South African firms InoviTel (PTY) LTD and Tsiko Africa Energy & Infrastructure, under the Tsiko Group.

The agreement, sealed on April 24 in Pretoria, was witnessed by Prabhat Kumar, the High Commissioner of India to South Africa, and Mahesh Kumar, Consul General of India in Johannesburg. Executives from both sides, including Parag Kumar Goyal from RailTel and CEOs Lavine Singh of InoviTel and Pragasen Naidoo of Tsiko Africa Energy and Infrastructure, officially exchanged the MoU documents.

This MoU will not only promote Indian tech innovations in South Africa but also delve into various sectors including telecommunications, railways, and other IT/ICT domains. Specific projects mentioned include the activation and commercialization of dark fibre along railway and high voltage transmission lines, and the implementation of advanced digital solutions like Railway Signal & Telecommunication systems, Digital Twin Modelling for predictive maintenance of railway assets, and Traffic simulation and OFC based Distributed Acoustic Systems (DAS) for both public and private rail operators in South Africa.

RailTel, with its extensive optic fiber network covering over 61,000 route km across India, is poised to bring its substantial infrastructure capabilities to these international collaborations, reinforcing its position as a major neutral telecom infrastructure provider on a global scale.
