The second India-France AI Policy Roundtable was held on February 10, 2025, at Sciences Po Paris, as a side-event to the AI Action Summit 2025. This significant gathering was co-organized by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, the Indian Institute of Science, IndiaAI Mission, and Sciences Po Paris.
The roundtable opened with remarks from Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, who underscored India’s commitment to responsible AI development, equitable technology sharing, and the creation of a techno-legal AI governance framework. He highlighted the synergy between India and France in AI policy and technology, emphasizing the potential for bilateral and global advancements.
Co-chairs, Shri Amit A. Shukla and H.E. Henri Verdier, elaborated on critical themes such as Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPI) for AI, foundation models, and global AI governance. They stressed the importance of cohesive data policies, especially in managing cross-border data flows and upholding data sovereignty.
Participants from various sectors contributed to the dialogue, advocating for democratized AI access, ethical AI practices, and the establishment of universal AI terminologies and standards. Discussions also focused on developing sovereign AI models, federated computing infrastructures, and fostering cross-border collaboration in AI research and startup ecosystems.
The roundtable also revisited outcomes from the inaugural session held in Bengaluru, reinforcing commitments to inclusive AI frameworks, sustainable computing, and impactful public-private partnerships. This session highlighted the ongoing cooperation between India and France in navigating the complexities of AI deployment and governance, setting a collaborative path forward for global AI policy integration.
