Tata and Airbus to Manufacture Helicopters in India: A Milestone for Make in India

Tata Group and Airbus are teaming up to create India’s first private Final Assembly Line (FAL) for helicopters, bolstering the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The FAL will assemble Airbus’ H125 helicopter from its civil range, marking a significant step as the private sector in India enters helicopter manufacturing. This partnership aligns with the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) campaign, supporting local manufacturing capabilities. Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), a Tata Group subsidiary, will lead the project alongside Airbus Helicopters. The collaboration expands on their existing work on the C-295 transport aircraft. During French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to India, discussions included potential defense sector collaborations, notably Safran’s involvement in producing fighter jet engines in India. France ranks as India’s second-largest arms supplier, and discussions centered on a complete transfer of technology for design, development, certification, and production.
