The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has established a new cybersecurity hub, the ‘Centre for Cybersecurity, Trust and Reliability’ (CyStar), to spearhead innovation and research in critical security domains. Officially launched on October 8, 2024, CyStar is set to advance technologies in areas like blockchain, AI security, cryptography, quantum security, and IoT protection.
Aimed at addressing the complex challenges of AI and the post-quantum era, CyStar will focus on protecting national infrastructure and crafting a comprehensive defense against sophisticated technological threats. The center plans to work closely with both local and international academic, industrial, and research partners to equip professionals and researchers with the necessary skills to address the security needs of today and tomorrow.
By fostering collaborations across key sectors such as finance, healthcare, automotive, and electronics, CyStar is dedicated to enhancing digital safety on a global scale. Prominent partners include the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Ministry of Education, Vitesco Technologies, Kaspersky, IDBI Bank, LG India, Saptang Labs, Algorand, the Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research, and the National Security Coordination Secretariat.
According to IIT Madras, CyStar is committed to pushing the boundaries of cybersecurity with its innovative research and educational efforts, leveraging a diverse team skilled in multiple disciplines. The center’s goal is to create a dynamic knowledge and innovation ecosystem that enables seamless collaboration between industry leaders, academics, and government bodies to apply cutting-edge security advancements to real-world applications.
