India’s First Private Semiconductor Manufacturing Plant to Launch in Andhra Pradesh with ₹14,000 Crore Investment

India is set to achieve a major milestone in semiconductor manufacturing with Indichip Semiconductors Limited and Japan’s Yitoa Micro Technology Limited (YMTL) announcing the establishment of the nation’s first private semiconductor fabrication facility in Andhra Pradesh. The ₹14,000 crore project, formalized through an MoU with the state government, will focus on producing Silicon Carbide (SiC) chips to advance India’s tech capabilities and sustainability initiatives.

Under Andhra Pradesh’s Semiconductor Policy launched in November 2024, the state aims to become a hub for electronics and semiconductor production. Starting with a monthly output of 10,000 wafers, the SiC fab is projected to scale up to 50,000 wafers within 2–3 years, supporting the global demand for energy-efficient technologies, electric vehicles, and renewable energy.

The MoU was signed by Indichip MD Piyush Bichhoriya and APEDB CEO Saikanth Varma in the presence of IT Minister Nara Lokesh, Industries Minister T.G. Bharath, and other prominent figures from Indichip and YMTL.

Minister Lokesh highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s innovative policies and infrastructure as key to attracting cutting-edge industries, while Minister Bharath emphasized the project’s potential to generate jobs, drive innovation, and boost ancillary industries.

Indichip MD Piyush Bichhoriya reaffirmed the company’s commitment to strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem, with Director Dr. Sandeep Garg noting the project’s role in advancing sustainable technologies.

Located in Orvakal Mega Industrial Hub, Kurnool, this initiative is set to position Andhra Pradesh as a leader in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, reinforcing India’s technological aspirations.
