Indian Biogas Association Collaborates with Hydrogen Association of India to Boost Hydrogen Energy

The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) has forged a partnership with the Hydrogen Association of India (HAI) to advance bio-based energy, particularly focusing on green and blue hydrogen. IBA Chairman Gaurav Kedia shared with PTI that the organizations have ratified a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance the production of green energy across India.

This collaboration is set to implement extensive initiatives, including training programs, capacity building, and advocating policies aimed at fostering the growth of bio-based energy solutions, with a concentrated effort on green and blue hydrogen.

Kedia predicts the green hydrogen sector in India could reach a market value of USD 8 billion by 2030, escalating to USD 340 billion by 2050. The partnership underscores a mutual commitment to reducing India’s dependency on foreign energy and propelling sustainable energy practices.

Both associations plan to integrate their resources to stimulate the burgeoning bio-based energy market further. The IBA is committed to advancing the biogas industry, while the HAI focuses on providing extensive services and finding effective solutions across the hydrogen industry.

The alliance also aims to enhance the production of blue hydrogen, expected to rise to 80 million metric tons by 2050, pending global regulatory advancements for clean fuel adoption.

Kedia highlights the potential of biogas in breaking down methane to produce both carbon and hydrogen, offering essential components for industries like steel manufacturing.

HAI president RK Malhotra emphasized the significance of policy support for the bio-hydrogen and biogas sectors. This strategic partnership seeks to capitalize on government initiatives to help India meet its green energy objectives and support sustainable national growth.
