India and EU Startups Lead Collaborative Efforts in EV Battery Recycling

Indian and European startups are setting the pace in the EV battery recycling sector, a move driven by both geopolitical and environmental imperatives. This collaboration between Indian and EU startups was highlighted during a recent meeting with the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Indian government, alongside an EU delegation.

The gathering underscored the mutual commitment of India and the EU to innovation, sustainability, and advancing a circular economy. It involved representatives from pioneering EU startups specializing in battery recycling technologies, officials from the EU delegation to India, and key Indian startups in the field.

Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, India’s Principal Scientific Adviser, emphasized that this partnership opens new avenues for technology exchange, market access, and joint development crucial for economic resilience and sustainable growth.

The discussions took place under the umbrella of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council’s Working Group 2 (WG2) and highlighted ongoing progress in strengthening ties between startups across continents, focusing on critical advancements in EV battery recycling technologies. Prominent participants included Indian firms like BatX Energies, Evergreen Lithium Recycling, LW3 Pvt Ltd, and Lohum, along with EU counterparts such as Ecomet Refining and Eneris.

This initiative is part of the broader India-EU TTC framework, established by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April 2022 and officially launched in February 2023. It aims to address challenges at the intersection of trade, trusted technology, and security, fostering deeper cooperation across these pivotal areas.
