Cummins India has inaugurated its first IT Global Competency Center (GCC) at the India Office Campus in Balewadi, Pune. The center was officially opened by Earl Newsome, Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Cummins Inc., and Annapurna Vishwanathan, Chief Information Officer of Cummins India, along with other senior officials.
This GCC is a crucial part of Cummins’ multi-year IT transformation strategy aimed at enhancing operational efficiencies and accelerating the time-to-market for its products and services. It will be home to software engineers, product owners, architects, technology leads, and process experts, focusing on innovation in the automotive, engineering research and development (ER&D), manufacturing, and energy sectors. Emphasizing gender diversity, 55% of the center’s employees are women, and the aim is to increase this diversity across all tech roles.
Earl Newsome expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “The Cummins success story in India is about people, progress, and possibilities. Launching our first IT GCC in India is a strategic step to build our IT capabilities and deliver outstanding business experiences globally. Pune’s vibrant software scene and strong engineering infrastructure will help us attract top-tier talent.”
Annapurna Vishwanathan emphasized the center’s strategic importance, stating, “This GCC aligns with our business growth goals and India’s progress. Leveraging India’s exceptional talent pool will enhance our digital capabilities and process transformation, giving us a competitive edge. I am confident that the India IT GCC will play a crucial role in Cummins’ global growth strategy.”
The GCC will also offer internships and job opportunities for veterans, individuals with special needs, women returning from maternity leave, and those re-entering the workforce. Additionally, it will collaborate with educational institutions to nurture future leaders.
