Twelve pioneering startups from India and the European Union presented their advanced electric vehicle battery recycling technologies at a significant matchmaking event organized by the India-EU Trade and Technology Council Working Group 2. These startups, meticulously chosen through a comprehensive selection process, spanned the entire battery recycling spectrum, from collection to the extraction of valuable minerals.
Participants included notable Indian firms such as Lohum, LW3 Pvt Ltd., BatX Energies, Evergreen Lithium Recycling Pvt Ltd., Metastable Materials Pvt Ltd., and CENALL Waste Management LLP. From the EU, the event featured startups like Alterity, Ecomet Refining, Eneris, Primobius, RockTech, and Tozero.
The event kicked off with opening remarks by the Indian Ambassador to the EU and the EU Ambassador to India, followed by insights from Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, India’s Principal Scientific Adviser, and Marc Lemaitre, the EU’s Director-General for Research and Innovation. The gathering aimed to boost sustainable innovation, strengthen India-EU economic relationships, and explore potential collaborative ventures.
Prof. Sood emphasized that the event was a critical platform for showcasing leading recycling technologies, encouraging networking, and fostering investment opportunities. Lemaitre highlighted the strategic importance of the India-EU innovation-driven partnership, noting its potential for significant environmental benefits.
The event concluded with plans to select three startups from each region for a week-long market immersion visit to the EU and India, aimed at enhancing stakeholder engagement, fostering collaboration, and gaining a deeper understanding of local markets. This initiative is part of the broader commitment of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council to promote sustainable development through green and clean energy technologies.
